Westpac in Vanuatu warns customers of fraudsters

7:02 am on 2 September 2013

Westpac Vanuatu has warned its customers to take extra care against what it says is an increase in hoax emails, phone calls and texts in which callers or senders claim to be bank employees to trick customers to give away their account details.

Westpac Regional General Manager Jeffery Byrne says criminals are becoming more and more creative in finding new ways to commit fraud, so customers have to be vigilant against these types of scams.

Mr Byrne says Westpac has strong systems in place to protect their customers' savings and personal information.

But Mr Byrne told the Daily Post newspaper it's vital for customs not to let their guards down as fraudsters may try to contact their customers personally to have access to their details.
