The New Caledonian government says for it the Pacific Islands Forum summit in the Marshall Islands was a total success.
In a statement, it says New Caledonia has obtained the Forum's official support to become a full Forum member.
It became an observer in 2004 and an associate member two years later following a 2003 initiative by the then French president Jacques Chirac to seek the French territories' integration into the regional organisation.
The statement says a report by a Forum delegation that visited in July was positive.
