Solomon Islands brings in stricter tax exemption rules

9:45 am on 10 September 2013

The government in Solomon Islands has announced stricter controls on duty and tax exemptions.

Solomon Islands Broadcasting reports the new procedures will put into effect amendments to tax and customs legislation, which came into force at the beginning of August.

The Minister of Finance and Treasury, Rick Houenipwela, says the legislation brings in a new combined Revenue and Customs Exemption Committee that will consider all applications for exemption from taxes and duties.

He says it will apply to new discretionary exemption applications only.
