The general manager of a major agricultural company in Solomon Islands says one of the bridges badly damaged during recent flooding is essential to his operation.
Large areas of the land used by Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited were flooded last week and the approaches to the bridge over the Balasuna river were washed away.
Roger Benzie says production was more than halved until the government's public infrastructure department made the necessary repairs a week later.
"We are in low crop at the moment so it's not too bad but we also make up 10 percent of the Solomons economy, so yes, it's been a loss for everybody."
Roger Benzie says he is grateful for the swift repairs but the next bout of heavy flooding will wash them away.
