Sport: Wallis and Futuna hope to host Mini Games again

The Chef de Mission for the Wallis and Futuna team at the Pacific Mini Games says he hopes the territory will be able to host the event again in the future.

Competition came to a close on Wednesday with the hosts unable to defend their men's volleyball crown.

But they still returned a best ever haul of 36 medals, including gold for Games Ambassador Tony Falelavaki in the para javelin and taekwondo's Jurgen Vegi in the men's under 80 kilogram division.

The Chef de Mission for the Wallis and Futuna team, Suliano Likiliki, says it's been a pleasure to host their Pacific neighbours over the past two weeks.

"The Pacific Games and the Pacific Mini Games is an opportunity for the countries who are visiting the host country to know the culture [and] the way of living of the population that is hosting them, and I think we have shown the countries how the Wallisian people and the Futunan people live and now they know the culture."

The next Mini Games are in Vanuatu in four years time.
