The Cooks Islands has signed a convention with France and New Caledonia aimed at lifting the profile of the republic and its territory in that country as well to get more Cook Islanders learning French.

The agreement is between the Cook Islands Ministry of Education, the Government of New Caledonia, the France-Volontaires Association, the Alliance Française of Rarotonga and the Embassy of France in New Zealand.

The convention, initiated by the embassy, affirms a mutual intention to reinforce partnership in education and cultural sectors.

Under the new arrangement a volunteer will begin a two-year stint of teaching French to students at Nukutere College and Apii Te Uki Ou Primary School later this month.
