Reports from Solomon Islands say one hundred and forty-two candidates have confirmed they are contesting the upcoming Western Province elections.

This follows three withdrawals after the closing date for withdrawals last Thursday.

Solomon Islands Broadcasting reports the returning officer Peter Buka says Ward 20's candidate now stands unopposed after the only other candidate withdrew his nomination.

The candidates are contesting 26 wards on the 26th of this month.
