Fishing boat still stuck on reef in CNMI

One of three fishing vessels that broke free from their moorings at Tinian harbour in the Northern Marianas and ran aground on the reef at Kammer Beach early on Friday morning remains stuck on the reef.

A U.S. Coast Guard official, Lieutenant William White says the Il Sin Ho's owner is working with an oil spill response organisation on how to remove around 25 thousand litres of oily water from the boat.

The owner is also in discussions with a salvage company on a vessel recovery plan.

Tinian resident Don Farrell says the authorities are taking precautions because of the possibility the boat will sink when it is pulled from the reef.
