Fiji's PSA demands answers on huge pay hikes for bosses

The body representing Fiji's civil servants has criticised an alleged report on pay hikes for permanent secretaries of Government departments.

The General Secretary of the Fiji Public Service Association, Rajeshwar Singh, says he is shocked at the reports of up to 192 per cent pay rises, and it's an insult to civil servants who are earning below the minimum wage.

The PriceWaterhouseCoopers report, leaked to the head of the Fiji Labour Party Mahendra Chaudhry, lists all permanent secretaries and their pay increases, with some receiving more than 119 thousand US dollars a year.

Mr Singh says the Government should confirm or deny the report.

"This is really unbelievable, but why the Government is not prepared to issue any statement is something that baffles us. If they have given this salary rise, why aren't they saying it's yes? If they haven't done it, so they should deny it."
