Tahitian surfer Michel Bourez is through to the fourth round of the Hurley Pro event in California.
The 27 year old, who is ranked 12 in the ASP World Championship Tour, edged Hawaii's Sebastian Zietz 13.94 to 13.80.
Earlier in the day championship leader Kelly Slater was knocked out by fellow American Patrick Gudauskas.
