Six police officers in Samoa face assault charges

3:08 pm on 24 September 2013

Six police officers in Samoa have appeared in the District court facing two charges each of actual bodily harm and common assault.

The criminal offences were filed against them after a man lodged a complaint accusing the officers of beating him while he was in police custody at the main station in Apia.

The court has accepted a state lawyer application for the case to be re-mentioned next Tuesday to allow the police to complete their investigation, and for the defendants to enter their pleas.

The officers have been suspended on full pay to await the outcome of their criminal charges.
