China says it will provide more than 32 million US dollars over the next three years to help Pacific countries deal with climate change.

According to FBC News, the Deputy Director General for Climate Change, Li Gao, has told a Pacific media delegation that China has high carbon emissions because it's a developing country with a large population base.

He adds it has introduced laws forcing companies to reduce their carbon emissions and are promoting environment friendly options.

Li Gao says China has set ambitious targets to reduce its carbon emissions and there are already signs of improvement.

He says China and small island states should lobby together and campaign as a group to demand more from developed nations.
