Tuariki wins Cook Islands by-election

Final results show Kaota Tuariki of the Cook Islands Party has officially won the Murienua by-election.

Mr Tuariki received 219 votes, while the Democratic Party candidate James Beer received 194.

Last Thursday, by a count of 193 votes to 174, Mr Tuariki came out on top, with 39 votes made by declaration boosting his majority.

The opposition leader, Wilkie Rasmussen, says his party is very happy with the results despite the fact that it lost the seat.
