The Fiji police deny they have back-tracked on a promised investigation into the torture and beating of two prison escapees by Fijian security personnel.
When a nine-minute video was posted online in March, showing the abuse of the men, the police issued a statement saying an investigation had commenced.
But Amnesty International New Zealand says Fiji authorities have refused to provide any updates on the inquiry, and it is starting to question if an investigation was ever launched.
However through a brief statement, the new Acting Commissioner Ravi Narayan has confirmed the investigations are continuing, six months on.
They have yet to answer questions about why it is taking so long, given the perpetrators would be easily identified from the video and whether the police be releasing their findings.
