The United States Federal Aviation Administration has awarded more than five million US dollars worth of grants to the American Samoa Government for airport-related projects at Ofu and Fitiuta airports in Manu'a.

The FAA has approved three grant proposals submitted by the territory.

The American Samoa governor says the three grants will help bolster the government's efforts to create jobs and improve services for the people of Manu'a.

"According to a statement from the Governor's Office, just over three million dollars (3,063,282) will go towards constructing an aircraft rescue and fire fighting facility building at Ofu airport."

Two million dollars will be made available for a perimeter fence around Fitiuta airport, and the remaining 150,000 dollars will fund a wildlife assessment at Ofu airport.
