Workshop on SME policy in PNG has begun

A week-long national consultation workshop on the new small and medium enterprise National Policy and master plan in Papua New Guinea has begun.

The country's Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru told local media that he is satisfied with the current progress of the work done to formulate the new framework.

The Post Courier newspaper reports Mr Maru saying he hopes the first draft copy of the new SME policy and master plan will be presented to the government for its approval by December.

He says since independence PNG has never had a roadmap in driving the growth of the private sector and such a framework would pave the way forward for developing the private sector.
