A cafe manager says Tonga's new high-speed internet has proved good for business and will give the country's tourism industry a boost.
A 800-kilometre fibre optic cable system now links Tonga to Fiji via the Southern Cross Cable, which is the main trans-Pacific link between Australia and the United States.
The cable was launched in late August and Paki Orbassano, who runs the Waterfront Lodge and Cafe in Nuku'alofa, says she got good feedback.
"I have a few customers who told me that they are very impressed with the internet here at the Waterfront and I told them that we are with fibre optic already and they were very impressed about it. They said that's very good, when they went on the internet it was really really fast."
Paki Orbassano says the new cable means the lodge can provide customers with a better service.
