The American Samoa governor, Lolo Matalasi Moliga, says the government work force will continue to work a full 80 hours for the next two pay periods.

But he says if the federal government shutdown continues beyond October the 25th he will look at other options.

Lolo says alternative strategies are being developed and will be ready for implementation before the end of the second authorized pay period.

He says he will also bring in new measures to contain costs.

Each payroll in American Samoa's comes to 3.6 million dollars with 1.4 million covered by federal funds.

Lolo says he ordered all furloughed federally funded employees back to work because he is concerned about the severe financial impact on families.

He is also concerned about rebuilding the economy damaged by the global meltdown, the 2009 tsunami and the imposition of the federal minimum wage.
