The chairman of the Solomon Islands Joint Civil Society Group says he lost his job this week due to threats from the Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.

The Solomon Star reports Barnabas Henson has been a vocal leader of the move to lodge a petition against the Prime Minister.

Mr Henson worked for Evita Solomons Limited - a prospecting and agricultural trade firm.

He told the Solomon Star he was summoned to the CEO's office on Tuesday, where he was told the Prime Minister had threatened that the company would not be welcome in his constituency of Kolombangara if it continued to engage him.

He says the Prime Minister had also threatened the company would not be granted tax exemptions for overseas machinery.

The General Manager of the company, Alfred Sasako, told the paper the CEO will issue a statement soon.

Mr Henson was reportedly engaged by the company only a week ago.
