The Guam weather office says Typhoon Lekima is now a super typhoon with winds at its centre of 255 kilometres an hour.
But the storm, which has not yet come close to land, is now moving to the northeast of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas.
Tropical force winds extend up to 200 kilometres from the typhoon's centre but the CNMI is still more than 700 kilometres to the west
The storm is expected to continue to intensify.
