Suspended police inspector and prison warden fails to appear in court

An arrest warrant has been issued in Samoa for a suspended police inspector after he failed to appear to face a corruption matter in the District Court.

The Samoa Observer reports that Uelese Lolo, a warden at the Tafaigata Prison, was due to appear yesterday to face five counts of corruption and one count of possession.

The prosecution told the court the case was ready to proceed and police had six witnesses to give evidence.

Inspector Lolo's lawyer told the court he knew about the appearance and did not object to the arrest warrant being issued.

Inspector Lolo has been suspended from the Ministry of Police and Prisons while the matter continues.
