The Assistant Police Commissioner in Samoa has called for the Deputy Prime Minister to be charged by the police.
Fonotoe Nuafesili Lauofo was implicated in an incident last week in Apia, when police asked another minister, Muagututagata Peter Ah Him, to undergo a breath test when they suspected him of driving under the influence of alcohol.
A police report filed by Ioapo Isitolo and leaked to the Samoa Observer, says the deputy prime minister arrived on the scene and instructed Muagututagata to drive away from the six police officers.
The Samoa Observer reports that Acting Police Commissioner, Afamasaga Michael So'onalole, confirmed there was an investigation into the incident.
The Assistant Police Commissioner and Police media officer, Fauono Tala Tapu, told Talamua Online that he believes what is in the police report.
On Tuesday, Fonotoe denied he interefered in the police operation.
