Sport: PNG league bodies to merge

10:15 am on 26 October 2013

The Papua New Guinea Rugby League Federation is to take over the running of the PNG Rugby League Foundation in a move that will put all rugby league programs under the control of the sport's governing body.

The Minister for Sport, Justin Tkatchenko, says a submission is currently before the NEC and is expected to be ratified shortly.

He says there has been strong co-operation between the Government, the Foundation and the PNGRFL over the past 12 months to get the game back on its feet but now it up to the governing body to plan, restructure and deliver programs that will benefit rugby league in PNG.

The Deputy Chairman Sandis Tsaka says the Foundation has delivered a fantastic schoolboys program and helped to secure entry to the Queensland Cup competition.
