Disunity in Vanuatu Nurses Association amid strike threats

10:27 am on 28 October 2013

The Vanuatu Nurses Association is embroiled in disunity, after the President asked his deputy to stop speaking on behalf of nurses.

The President, Willie Reuben Taiganvat, told Anne Pakoa her group of nurses is not an affiliated group of the organisation.

Miss Pakoa has being warning the Government that nurses nationwide will strike if her demands are not answered regarding the Government's current health reform programme.

She says the current programme will deprive health service delivery to the rural communities.

But Mr Taiganvat says regardless of the pressure on the Government, nurses also have ongoing commitments with children's school fees, loans and bills to settle.
