An Australian conman, Peter Foster, has reportedly evaded Australian authorities and fled to Fiji.

The Sunday Mail says on Thursday Foster was sentenced to three years' jail on two charges of contempt of court relating to his involvement in a scam.

He has told the paper that he left Australia using a false passport and is seeking a Fiji protection visa.

Six years ago, he was sentenced to two months in jail in Vanuatu for entering the country without a valid visa after skipping bail in Fiji where he was facing fraud charges.
