Solomons Govt opens new police station in Guadalcanal

6:38 am on 1 November 2013

The Solomon Islands government has opened a new police station in the Aola area of East Central Guadalcanal, saying it is needed because of the area's potential for economic growth.

Aola was the seat of government at one stage during the colonial period and with the opening of the new police station, the government is confident more services will begin to flow to this part of the island.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the permanent secretary of police and national security, Edmond Sikua, says the area has high economic potential.

At present, there are logging and fishing interests there and Guadalcanal Province is keen for more development there.

Mr Sikua says investors need to know their investments are secure.
