France says it will release a 57 million US dollar loan to French Polynesia before the end of the year.

The overseas territories ministry says the funds will have to be reimbursed within two years which will be written into a convention.

The money is to help the government of Gaston Flosse pay suppliers and public servants.

In July, Mr Flosse and other government ministers were in Paris lobbying for funds to help overcome the territory's economic crisis.

The overseas territories minister, Victorin Lurel, is expected to be in Tahiti in December.
