New Caledonia's pro-independence Caledonian Union has re-elected Daniel Goa as its president.

He was confirmed during a weekend congress in Lifou.

The party is a key component of the FLNKS Movement and represented in the territory's collegial government.

Among its members are the vice-president, Gilbert Tyuienon, and the Congress president, Roch Wamytan.

New Caledonia is gearing up for elections in May which will usher in the last phase of the 1998 Noumea Accord and pave the way for a possible independence referendum.
