Village council in Samoa banishes girl over sex allegations

6:58 am on 13 November 2013

The Samoa Victim Support Group says a village council breached the human rights of a 13 year-old girl when it banished her from the village following allegations she lured young boys for sex.

The girl denied the accusations made by the boys at a village meeting, a meeting where she was not asked to give her side of the allegations.

The victim support group says it's concerned with the way the matter was dealt with by the village council, saying there was a breach of human rights.

The girl's family has also been banished.

A village elder says the decision to banish the girl and her family will protect the young men of the village from becoming involved in this kind of behavior.
