American Samoa's Moliga approves two tax exemption certificates

The American Samoa Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga has approved two tax exemption certificates since taking office in January.

A member of the Tax Exemption Board Iulogologo Joseph Pereira, and the governor's executive assistant, says the governor has granted tax exemptions to the can manufacturing company, Ardagh, and the Duty Free Shop at the airport.

Ardagh is the can manufacturing plant at Satala which supplies StarKist Samoa.

The airport Duty Free Shop is a business owned by Sherry Butler who took over the business last year.

American Samoa's Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has repeatedly called for the abolishment of the Tax Exemption Board because he feels it does not provide a fair playing field for businesses.
