Fiji businesses to pass on credit card surcharges

The Fiji government says it will allow retailers and merchants to pass on surcharges on credit card transactions.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the policy change will lead to additional revenues from value-added tax, sales turnover tax and other taxes.

The prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama,says this measure will generate additional revenue of about eight million US dollars.

In terms of other tax incentives, Commodore Bainimarama says government will provide a blanket tax exemption on all investments in Fiji Holdings' mutual funds that were popular among small investors.
