Sport: Tonga desperate to prove themselves as France eye revenge

10:22 am on 16 November 2013

Tonga are wary of a French backlash in tomorrow morning's rugby test in Le Harve.

The two countries last met at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, where the 'Ikale Tahi stunned the Tri-Colours 19-14 in Wellington.

Tonga coach Mana Otai admits his side isn't being given much chance this weekend, a fact not helped by last weekend's shock loss in Romania.

"The media and everything has sort of mentioned the fact that it's revenge time for France and obviously that would be motivation for France in itself. I guess for Tonga [the motivation is] to prove that it's not a one-off. It showed against the All Blacks they can play. They have got a very good scrum set-piece wise and I guess we've got to focus on our strengths. We do have some good players in there, some good ball runners, so we've just got to make sure that we provide good enough go-forward ball to put those players into play."

Meanwhile in other tests overnight Fiji take on Italy in Cremona and Manu Samoa are in Clermont to face the French Barbarians.
