4:53 pm on 18 November 2013

Four soldiers from Fiji serving with a United Nations mission on the Golan Heights have been hospitalised.

The Fiji Live website quotes Israel Radio as saying the soldiers were injured in a road accident in Syria on Friday night.

They are in hosiptal in the Israeli city of Safed and the report describes their condition as moderate.

500 troops from Fiji are serving on the UN Disengagement Force on the Israel-Syria border.

Fiji's contingent replaced troops from Croatia, Japan and Austria who pulled out due to fighting spilling over from the Syrian conflict.

The prime minister of Fiji, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, earlier warned the troops could be facing their most dangerous mission so far.
