Vanuatu MPs back this Friday after last Friday's boycott

A special sitting of the Vanuatu parliament is now due set for this Friday after a boycott last Friday.

The boycott came as the government planned a vote to allow dual citizenship but reportedly none of the 19 opposition MPs turned up.

The government needs the backing of two thirds of the 52 MPs for its Capital Investment Immigration Plan which would give investors dual citizenship in return for investment.

Local media say the opposition stayed away because its MPs had not been given the details of the legislation early enough to allow discussion with their constituents.
