The Solomon Islands government is allocating funding to a women's business group to help them into the agriculture sector.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has signed a funding agreement with the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association, to the order of $14,000 US dollars.
The money will be used for training in poultry farming, piggeries, and ornamental or floral arts and design.
The permanent secretary Jimi Saele'a says he is happy the Women in Business Association has partnered with them as the Ministry needs protagonists to help it achieve its policy goals and objectives.
The women's group has more than 400 active members and almost half of them are running small businesses in agriculture.
The president of the organisation, Dalcy Tekulu, says she is trying to economically empower women.
