4:17 pm on 2 December 2013

The French Polynesian government will be at the airport in Tahiti this afternoon to meet the New Zealand foreign minister, Murray McCully, at the start of a two-day official visit.

The minister is scheduled to have a private meeting with the territory's president, Gaston Flosse tomorrow.

Mr McCully is travelling with New Zealand's New Caledonia-based consul-general, Linda Te Puni, who is accredited to the French Pacific territories.

She was in Tahiti last month to prepare the visit, which according to media reports is looking at regional economic cooperation towards sustainable development.
