People in Fiji have access to ultra fast broadband after the launch yesterday of fourth generation mobile or 4G.
The new network provided by Vodafone will mean faster data speeds and wider internet and mobile coverage.
Fiji's prime minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama launched the network saying the new technology was not an empty gesture for short-term political gain but an effort to reposition Fiji as a regional hub not only for shipping and aviation.
He says the plan is for Fiji to be at the centre of a web of connectivity linking Pacific Island countries with the rest of the world.
He also urged retailers and importers to take note there is now no tax on smartphones.
