Honiara residents can vote in home areas - Solomons Electoral body

5:08 am on 7 December 2013

In next year's Solomon Islands elections, Honiara residents who want to vote in their home constituencies will be able to do so with having to travel home.

But the Electoral Commission says they will need to be registered in special centres to be set up in Honiara.

The commission says the newly launched Biometric Voter Registration will enable Honiara residents wanting to vote in their home constituencies to register as voters.

It says the voter registration period will run for 40 days beginning next January 27.

Meanwhile, the commission says as the Biometric Voter Registration is a new form of registration, it will be widely publicised in the media and through community awareness campaigns.
