New Zealand's former governor general, Sir Anand Satyanand, has told Solomon Islanders that corruption if allowed to flourish undermines democratic institutions, erodes public confidence in decision makers and depletes public wealth.

Sir Anand was guest of honour at Transparency Solomon Islands events marking International Anti-corruption Day on Monday.

He addressed more than 200 people after they had walked through Honiara demanding greater accountability from the government.
