PNG man supports Parliament speaker's removal of carved heads

A Papua New Guinea man has voiced support for the speaker of Parliament's decision to remove anthropomorphic carved heads from the front of the parliament building.

The speaker, Theo Zurenuoc, said the carvings were elements of cult and demonic practices and unworthy of a Christian country, and has targeted other cultural items for removal.

However, following a public outcry, the Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has asked the speaker not to remove any more items.

But Corney Korokan Alone , who calls himself a true believer in Jesus Christ, says the parliament needs to be cleansed of all spirits which run counter to godliness.

So I see a great contradiction, going into a place which is pretty much crammed with all kinds of idols and carvings and what have you. Because Papua New Guinea being a complex kind of country, people believe in all these kinds of things and for that to be hanging around there in the law-making house, it's a clear contradiction. The bible's very explicit about that. It calls them idols and they need to be burned.
