More Australian police due in PNG

2:45 pm on 13 December 2013

A 13-strong team of Australian Federal Police officers arrive in Papua New Guinea's second city Lae today.

It is the latest phase of the PNG-Australia Policing Partnership which will see 50 AFP officers deployed in PNG by the end of the year.

The acting police commissioner, Simon Kauba, says it is a fantastic opportunity for PNG policemen and women to learn from their AFP colleagues.

An AFP assistant commissioner Alan Scott says the partnership will focus on community policing, station management and supervision, community liaison, traffic operations and criminal investigations.
