The member of parliament for South Guadalcanal in Solomon Islands, David Day Pacha, says the government must ensure rehabilitation takes place for his people on the island's Weather Coast.
This follows a government initiated reconciliation ceremony this week at Peochokuri Village in South Guadalcanal.
The government, led by the prime minister Gordon Darcy Lilo, was there to apologise for an attack on the region more than a decade ago by the so called Joint Operation, involving para-military police and the Malaita Eagle Force.
The police launch was used to fire indiscriminately at villages on the Weather Coast as the joint Operation hunted the fugitive rebel leader, Harold Keke.
Mr Day Pacha says now a reconciliation ceremony has taken place, a sustainable rehabilitation programme must be put together.
He says the Weather Coast people want to be partners with both the national and provincial governments to work out a rehabilitation programme to let them take an active part in developing projects that can earn them incomes.
