The Solomon Islands Finance and Treasury Minister, Rick Hou has told Parliament the government will spend 3-point-5 billion Solomon Island dollars to provide services for locals next year.

He says the 2014 National Budget will also provide 34-point-6 million Solomon Island dollars to cover potential unforeseen and unexpected needs.

Mr Hou says the 2014 Budget is a sound and responsible budget which will ensure economic stability and fiscal sound footing.

He explains in keeping with the Government's development priority focus, almost half of the new measures are directed at rural and economic developments.

Mr Hou says investment in both rural and economic developments will be met despite a slowing rate of revenue growth and a decrease in donor funding assistance.

He says in addition, the Budget takes forward a process of enforcing the Government's public financial management reform agenda designed to increase public and donor confidence in public finance systems and processes.

Mr Hou presented to Parliament the 2014 National Budget on Friday.
