Fire destroys popular American Samoa store

8:41 am on 27 December 2013

An early morning fire has burned down a popular second hand store in American Samoa.

Mary's Bargain Center in Malaeimi, which catered to low income customers, went up in smoke in the wee hours of Christmas morning.

Owned by Mrs. Mary Anderson, the business was very popular as it offered affordable prices for washing machines, refrigerators and furniture.

The same building had renters, some of whom were students at the American Samoa Community College, across the road.

The cause of the fire is not known.
