Tonga holiday season crime drops

6:49 am on 6 January 2014

Crimes reported during the Christmas and New Year breaks in Tonga have dropped by 25 percent compared to the same time in the past two years.

The Acting Superintendent of Nuku'alofa Police station, Inspector Tevita Fifita, told Radio Tonga that a house break and entry was reported on Boxing Day in Pili.

Electronic equipment was stolen from the premises.

The Traffic Department also recorded five road offences during the festive season, but there were no casualties.

Inspector Tevita Fifita says good cooperation between Tonga Police and the public contributed tremendously to the decline in reported crime.
