The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea is raising questions about the manner in which warrants to arrest him and two other cabinet ministers were obtained.
Local media say the warrants for Peter O'Neill, the treasurer Don Polye and finance minister James Marape were issued by the Waigani District Court to senior constable Robert Ewail.
Our correspondent in PNG, Todagia Kelola says the issue relates to an independent police probe into corrupt payments from government coffers to a high profile lawyer Paul Paraka, in which the Prime Minister has been implicated.
He says Peter O'Neill is questioning the process in which the warrants were obtained.
"The Prime Minister is saying that this senior constable is not in charge of the case. The Task Force Sweep is in charge of the case and they're carrying out investigations into it. Somehow this senior constable has gone to court to get the warrants, saying he's the case officer when he's not the case officer of the investigations."
Todagia Kelola says the opposition leader Belden Namah is putting pressure on the police commissioner to execute the arrest warrants.
