CNMI struggles finding nurses locally

2:44 pm on 7 January 2014

The Northern Marianas lone hospital says it still lacks nurses with recruitment efforts unable to add to the 168 full-time nurses currently working at the Commonwealth Health Center.

The hospital administrator, Jesse Tudela, has attributed the sluggish hiring rate to the difficulty of finding qualified individuals on island.

Mr Tudela pointed at the need to seek more medical professionals from outside the CNMI to fill the gap.

He says he expects to have 170 nurses by the end of the month, which is far from the ideal ratio for the public hospital, that used to employ 225 nurses.
