Tonga cabinet discusses request for minister's resignation

Cabinet ministers in Tonga have met this afternoon to discuss the Prime Minister's request for the Finance Minister Lisiate 'Akolo to resign.

According to Mr 'Akolo's office, he is on sick leave and no official resignation letter has been received.

This follows reports that Lord Tu'ivakano had sent him a letter, asking him to resign by today.

The Prime Minister was disappointment with Mr Akolo's performance.

No details of the meeting have emerged and it is not known whether Mr 'Akolo was in attendance.
