Body recovered after Samoa flood accident

6:12 pm on 10 January 2014

The police in Samoa say the body of one of two people missing since New Year's Day has been recovered.

The couple, both in their 60s, were swept away when a vehicle they were in plunged into a flooded river.

Two others were killed in the accident

The police say the family of seven did not realise the road at Ti'avea Aleipata had collapsed due to flooding.

The acting Assistant Police Commissioner, Misa Nafo'i Talaimanu Keti, says the body of a man was recovered recently.

"The woman is still missing and we have aborted our search now because of the weather, we will still keep an eye out and look for information but the official search has been paused for such a time because of heavy raining and flooding."

Misa says the road has now been fixed.
