1:15 pm on 14 January 2014

Australia is giving Tonga an initial 45,000 US dollars in emergency supplies following Cyclone Ian.

The Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop, says Australia's thoughts are with those who have had their homes and livelihoods devastated by the disaster.

Australian relief supplies will include blankets, water containers, tarpaulins, kitchen sets and hygiene kits.

Ms Bishop says the Australian High Commission in Nuku'alofa is still contacting Australians in affected areas to confirm their safety.
